So as many of you know, my family's love of quilting does not stop with me. I have two wonderful daughters that also sew and quilt. Morgen is just getting started and in July we are going to learn how to do paper piecing! In this blog I am going to be talking about my other daughter Torrie. Torrie is 14 years old and I swear she actually quilts more than I do! This year Torrie is finishing her Girl Scout Silver Award. I have included her write up that she is handing out to local businesses in her quest for donations of flannel. Please feel free to read it and if you want copy and print it out to share. She has set herself a pretty large goal of 30 baby quilts over the course of the summer. Blankets of Love
Hi, my name is Torrie. I am a Girl Scout in troop 1230. I am in the process of earning my Silver Award this is the second highest award one can earn in Girl Scouts. For my Silver Award I am making 30 child and baby sized quilts to donate to the local pregnancy center, domestic violence shelter and hospitals. These quilts will all be going to children in need. I am seeking donations of flannel material, each quilt takes approximately 3 ½ yards of material. Any size of material can easily be worked with. News, News and More News
Wow, OK so I am not so good at this blog thing, I only seem to get to write about once a month, I guess that means I am either really really busy and never get the chance to write or my life is so totally boring that I have nothing to write about! I will let you decide!
OK so I wrote before about construction on my quilting studio, wow you would not believe how much progress we have made in the last month, we have gotten all of the walls up, roof and shingles on, windows and doors installed and the electrician had been wiring for the last week! So this is what we look like now!

I am so excited about how things are coming along!
I also wanted to share the conclusion of our Girl Scout troop quilting for Project Linus I am proud to share that the girls finished 20 rag quilts and we handed them off to Loretta on May 12th. Here is a picture of the girls.

OK so the last thing I want to mention today, I would like to say a special thank you to our troop leader Michelle, with our her exuberant personality and giving heart we would not have stayed together for 8 years as a troop, yes these girls have really grown up together!
So this year with quilting being the theme, I made a lone star quilt for the true northern star of our troop, our guiding compass... Michelle we love you.

Under Construction
Well, I had mentioned about a month ago that we were going to be building a sewing room for ME!!! Well, we started construction a couple of weeks ago, It is just Stuart and me, and the girls so it will take us a bit since we can only work on weekends! We got the foundation done, and I am pretty sure that the foundation is the hardest part! We finished the foundation, and stared construction on the floor, got the bug barrier, insulation and the floor down on Saturday, (boy were we sore!) Then Sunday we opened the main kit and unpacked, so got a later start than I would have liked but we did manage to get the west wall framed and the siding on! We were so sore and tired by that time that we decided to call it a weekend and left the side down due to strong winds predicted this week. So, Saturday next weekend we will raise the west wall and construct the other three walls! All in all things are going pretty smoothly! For those who are interested, my sewing room will be 10'x20' free standing. I purchase it as a kit from a wonderful place called home place structures. The folks there are awesome, wonderful customer service. It actually arrived here almost 2 weeks before expected (how often does that happen!) It is all pre-measured and pre-cut with a WONDERFUL instruction manual that has step by step instructions with actual pictures! So with out further ado.... Pictures of our progress! Oh, and the Big guy is my Wonderful Wonderful husband, and the Little guy is our full time helper AKA His Nibs or better known as Scoochy Poochy! Enjoy the pictures and I will post again soon.

Wow, I can't believe it has been almost a month since my last post! What a busy month it has been, spring break with all of the kids was a feel killer, then right after spring break we did our first of two girl scout sewing days, check out these girls, I am so proud of them!!!
This is just a small sampling, over the course of two days-11 hours total cutting and sewing, these girls completed 14 quilts! Pretty amazing since some of these girls are very new sewers.
So between sewing, kids and starting construction on my new sewing room (got the foundation almost done this weekend) and work, life has been pretty insane.
I will post again soon with more pictures of the girls scouts and their quilts as I am hoping to get some finished shots tonight at our meeting!

I am so excited!
Well, after a whirl wind day yesterday I am now the proud new owner of a Grace GMQ, and a Babylock Quilters Choice Pro. What a wonderful day! Here is a photo of the Babylock
I do not have a picture of the Grace Frame yet as it is in pieces in my husbands shop, I willl get it together this weekend and post a few pictures then!

April Fools
Wow, It's hard to believe that today is April 1st, it is bleeping cold out!!!
It has been a few weeks since I have been on, I am finally kicking this rotten cold! On my 4th week, enough all ready I just want to breath!
So I had my birthday, what a great day, for 40 it was a day that I will remember for a long time. I took the day off I figured that if I am ever going to close the daycare for a birthday this is the one, I probably won't do it again till I am 50! So I took the day off, visited with my kid sister for a bit, ran off, had lunch with my bestest friend Wanda, and my other bestest friend Stuart (hubby). Then came home and lounged around till the girls got out of school. Now comes the fun part.
Picked the girls up and headed to the annual quilt show, What a blast, I will soon be posting a slide show of all the pretty quilts, so keep an eye out. Morgen and I had so much fun, she and I shopped and shopped and shopped some more, ended up with dozens of Batik fat quarters for a quilt I have been dreaming of. I also got to play with a Baileys home quilter (mid arm machine) nice, and the SuzyQ quilting frame. Art and Sue are two of the nicest folks I have ever met. I will be doing business with them in the future, I am very taken with their frame. I did play with the HQ sixteen long arm machine also..oh my love... but alas 7,000 (yes that is thousand) is a bit out out of my price range!
The other big news of the day, I purchased my sewing room, Yup the whole room! So we will start construction on the foundation this up coming weekend, the "room" arrives the end of April and we are hoping to have the framing, walls roof and electric done by the end of June. We will see... So I will have a place for my latest find... the pinnacle of my birthday actually happened today, I was given a great deal on a Grace GMQ http://graceframe.com/gfxoops/modules/sample_module_1/
And then Stuart found an almost new (11 months old) Babylock Quilters Choice Pro with a stitch regulator for less than a thousand,

It is not as big of a set up as I had hoped for, but given the construction costs we are facing and the fact that I was going to have to wait at least a year or more before getting a frame and machine at all I am delighted. Plus when the time comes to upgrade to that HQ I should be able to sell the smaller set up for not too much of a loss. So all in all I feel it is a good investment, Plus if the girls continue to show and interest in quilting maybe a second frame is a good thing.
So that sums up my very exciting birthday Wow it really was a big week!
