Is it Friday yet?

Well, this is just a quick sign in tonight. Still down with my cold, but due to State requirements HAD to o in for CPR class tonight, so took the girls, Torrie needed to re certify anyhow, Morgen I just could not leave at home alone for 4 hours, so she went to the class kicking and digging her heels in (figuratively) of course once we got there she was totally interested, ended up taking the class and got certified also. So that was the end of our very long day, and the end of a very long week. I took tomorrow off to try to beat this cold into submission, wish me luck

Ginnys Quilts Slideshow

I should have bought stock!

I have always been an avid reader. I love books and I have passes that love onto my children. I remember reading C.S. Lewis, Narnia in 4th grade, over and over that year. I also remember the summer between 6th and 7th grade, I found a Novel, it was my older sisters I think and she was angry that I read her book, she tattled to mom, mom said that if I was old enought to understand it I was old enought to read it. (Thanks Mom!) And I blossomed. Books are almost an obsession. When the Girls were little I never had time to read with kids 18 months apart you don't have time to do much of anything. So I gave up my books, fast forward, the girls got older, but I had the daycare, still not much time to read, but then I found ebooks, Ah Ha I could read in the dark because my ebook reader had a back light, I spent two years getting about 4 hours of sleep a night...YAWN!

The point of all of this you ask, So I started quilting, and that as we know takes up huge chunks of time, and sometimes it is a pretty mindless thing. Now fast forward to Christmas 2006, having teenage daughters they always want the latest gadget, So for Christmas I got them MP3 players. Well, Stuart and I played with them before Christmas, Wow these little buggers are cool, so we both got one also, Stuart for his music, me well I figured I would put some music on, but as I am not a huge music buff.... Then I got to looking in the package and there was a free trial membership to a internet site called Audible.com. Audible specilizes in you guessed it audiobooks in MP3 format! I was in HOG HEAVEN. thousands of books, in every genre, by some of my favorite authors, unabridged, well read... I can sew, cook, clean, and listen in bed! WOW, Ok so I average about 3 books a week. Yes it is an addiction, Yes it annoys Stuart that I have to pull an earbud out when he talks to me. But to feed my reading soul, that is bliss. I do not even want to calculate how much of my paycheck has gone to the Audible site all I know is I should have bought stock.

Starve a fever, Feed a cold?

Ah heck I can never remember maybe it's starve a cold and feed a fever either way it's not working, I am two weeks into this bloody cold and it is only getting worse, I actually closed the daycare yesterday to try and get some rest, was planning on closing today but had a parent call and ask me to please be open because it is finals week and she can't miss work. Sigh, so I got up this morning with a fever and runny nose and coughing, all in all feeling like crud and went to work. On an up note I just found out that Friday I only have one of my kids so I have decided that I am closing so I can kick this thing!!!

The sad thing about this cold, I feel so miserable that I have not worked on Morgens XXX quilt, I still don't have a name for it but here is a work in progress shot

I love the quilt it is so bright and all I have left to do is the quilting part, I am still not sure how I want to quilt it, I thought about a pretty design in all the black squares with a rainbow variegated thread, but when I tried that I did not like it, so unquilted that square, then tried a 2" square grid, Yuck again, so still thinking, and still no energy to wrestle the thing around to do the quilting, I am bummed it has never taken me this long to finish a quilt, poor Morgen is wondering if I will ever get her quilt done... I will I promise! The good news in since I was not using my machine Morgen grabbed it (BTW, that Morgen in the picture) and sewed her Project Linus quilt. So the weekend was not a total waste.

I am hoping I will get the energy to work on it this weekend because if things go as we plan it may be my last weekend to do any sewing for a long while, As many of my friends know I have been saving every spare penny for ages (it was a lot of pennies= LOTS of ages) and I finally have enough saved to built MY sewing room. We finished Stuarts shop a year ago and he has been having a blast in there with the bugs, but I am still squished into the corner of my bedroom with my machines and to do any real sewing and quilting I have to bring everything out to the living room. So by the end of the month we will have ordered my room it will be a free standing (not attached to the house) 10' x 20' fully finished sewing room, I laughed and told Stuart that we will have to put in intercoms, his shop is on the south end of the house, my room will be on the north end! The lovely thing, We are building it.... I figured we did Stuarts 20'x24' all steel shop in a summer, heck a building half that size all pre-cut lumber should be a breeze! (remind me of that statement in 3 months please LOL).
Well that's it for now I have another post that I will be doing later showing some of the daycare kids in action, but now its dinner time.
Thanks for looking

Hello World

Well, let me start by saying thank you for taking you time and checking out my blog, hopefully it will be worth your valuable time.

For my first blog post I would like to share a bit about myself.

My name is Ginny, I am the daughter of Kathy. I grew up on a little island in the Puget Sound.

My mom use to sew and I remember her making my clothing when i was about 10 or so. As I grew up, I took a couple of basic sewing classes but soon discovered that I HATED making clothing. So for many years I did many other crafts. I have dabbled in Kumihimo, Cross Stitch, Beading, Gardening, and Miniature painting to name just a few. I have also been an avid Photographer for most of my life, matter of fact went to an art institute and majored in photography. All in all I would say that my leanings have always been creative and visual.

After the birth of my first daughter I was a stay at home mom for many years, and to help out financially I started an in home daycare. I am currently a licensed child care provider. (I am sure that I will address more on that later).

So back to quilting. About 3 1/2 years ago I became interested in machine embroidery, Oh I do enjoy it also, taught my self how to digitize patterns, and one day while playing around online I found a site (threads that bind us) that had in the hoop paper pieced quilt squares. I purcahsed a pattern, tried it, made a small quilt and fell in love.

This is my first quilt!

Not with paper piecing, turns out I do not like paper pieceing at all! But it did get me started down the quilters road, now almost two years later here I am, a self taught quilter. I am still learning, every quilt I try I learn something new.

My latest projects have been...

my daughters birthday quilt

I have also been working on a quilt for my younger

daughter, I will have to post pictures of it soon, I am a bit stuck

on the quilting aspect of it. But thats another blog.

Well, duty calls and I need to end this. Again, thank you for looking and I hope you will find your way back.

Signing off for now.
